Keeping it local with “slow shopping”

You have probably heard of slow food, which is all about eating food that is healthy for people, is good for the people who grow it and good for the planet.

According to The Slow Food Australia website it is a movement to “counteract fast food and fast life, the disappearance of local food traditions, people’s dwindling interest in the food they eat, where it comes from, how it tastes and how our food choices affect the rest of the world”.

The Paddington Green Precinct members operate in tune with this philosophy.  We aim to re-connect our customers with where products come from, what they are made from, how they are made and who made them.  You might call it “slow gifts” at Biome or “slow fashion” at Bliss Ecowear or “slow skin care” at Vitale!

We especially love to support products that are made close to Paddington so we are reducing our carbon footprint and fostering a vibrant local commerce community.

Biome eco stores supports talented local artisans like Kylie Johnson  who makes her gorgeous ceramic quote tags, ornaments and earrings within a few kilometres of the store.

Bliss Ecowear offers fashion and jewellery made by Brisbane based producers.

Slowing the migration is as easy as setting your family the challenge “how little can we send to landfill this Christmas?” Aim to make your wheelie bin as empty as you can each week, and you will all make decisions that reduce your waste. Sit the team down before Christmas and talk about ways to reuse, reduce and recycle.

Here are some ideas from Brisbane’s Biome eco stores to get you started…
